Who is Stan Bingham?
Bingham was raised in Clemmons after being born in Winston-Salem in 1945. He earned a bachelor of science in forestry from North Carolina State University in 1968. In Denton, Stan Bingham and his wife Lora brought up their four children, Andrea, Heather, Claudia, and Natasha. In 1979, he established Bingham Lumber, which he later sold. Bingham also launched The Denton Orator in 1995; he served as the publication’s publisher.
During his tenure in government, Bingham introduced and helped pass 171 measures, many of which had to do with protecting consumers. In the NC Senate District 33 election of 2000, he prevailed. Before leaving the Senate in 2017, he served eight terms. From 1990 to 1994, Bingham served a single term as a commissioner on the Davidson County Board of Commissioners, marking his political debut. He was chosen in 2000 to serve as the senator for North Carolina’s Senate District 33, which includes Davidson and Guilford counties. He completed his ninth term in 2016 and left the Senate the following year.
Bingham’s passing was lamented by the mayor of Denton, Larry Ward, as well as by him personally as a friend. He was a buddy to everyone, said Ward, and he was willing to chat with anyone about anything. He was a fantastic mentor to me and offered a lot of assistance. The loss is enormous for Southern Davidson.
