Misrach Ewunetie, a 20-year-old Princeton University student, is enrolled there. She enrolled at Princeton in the fall of 2020 to graduate in 2024. She engaged in several groups on campus, including Matriculate, the Pre-College Research Institute, and the Princeton Ethiopian and Eritrean Student Association.

Ewunetie was last seen brushing her teeth in the early hours of Thursday morning in Scully Hall. Her phone allegedly beeped just before becoming silent near an off-campus housing development, about a 30-minute walk from her dorm, according to her brother. Police conducted three unsuccessful searches of the housing complex.

How did Misrach Ewunetie die? 

The body of missing Princeton University student Misrach Ewunetie was found on campus, according to the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office, which announced on Thursday. The school’s assistant vice president for public safety, Kenneth Strother Jr., and Mercer County prosecutor Angelo Onofri both stated that “Her corpse was located at around 1:00 p.m. on the campus grounds, behind the tennis courts. The Middlesex County Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.

According to the Mercer County Prosecutor’s office, the body was found behind the tennis courts by a maintenance worker near the edge of the Ivy League campus. Although investigators stated they do not know what caused her death, they added that “there were no evident signs of harm and her death does not appear suspicious or criminal in nature” even though her body was found on Thursday afternoon. The Ivy League university also said in a statement that police do not believe Misrach Ewunetie’s death was the result of foul play.

W. Rochelle Calhoun, vice president of Princeton, stated: “Misrach’s death is an inconceivable tragedy. Our thoughts are with her family, her friends, and a lot of other people. We grieve for Misrach as a community because Princeton is so close-knit.

Misrach Ewunetie’s cause of death: Explained 

Ewunetie was last seen near a residential building on the New Jersey campus at about three in the morning, according to the university. The university reported her missing on Monday and asked anyone with information to contact the Department of Public Safety. The University informed the community on Wednesday morning that there was a “greater law enforcement presence on and around campus today, including the deployment of a helicopter, drones, and boats” as part of the ongoing search for missing Misrach Ewunetie.

The head of one of the school’s 11 dining clubs told the student newspaper The Daily Princetonian that Ewunetie was volunteering there on Thursday night. The Terrace Club’s president, Alexander Maravcsik, told the newspaper that Ewunetie was discharging her duties while the club was hosting a musical performance. The inquiry is ongoing, and the cause of Misrach Ewunetie’s death is still unknown.

Ewunetie’s Family Statement :

Her brother claims that earlier on Thursday, Ewunetie’s family complained that the authorities had “kept them in the dark.” He added that they are working to put together a timeline of her whereabouts and are in urgent need of information. Her family was particularly worried because she skipped a meeting on Saturday to talk about her citizenship, according to her older brother, Universe Ewunetie.

Bloodhounds had been used by authorities to trace Ewunetie’s odor from the hostel to Lake Carnegie on the campus of Princeton, and detectives were looking into the area around the lake, according to a law enforcement source.

According to Universe, his father tried to reach his sister on Friday but was unable to do so, so he assumed she was preoccupied. Calls and SMS started to be received on Saturday, but there was still no response, and by Sunday, calls were going straight to voicemail. They stated that they had spoken to her housemates, who remembered seeing her asleep in her bed on Friday morning.
